Conroe High School art teacher and head soccer coach Melianie Stinson has been nominated for the prestigious LifeChanger of the Year Award, an annual honor recognizing outstanding educators nationwide. Out of hundreds of nominations from all 50 states, only 17 individuals will receive this distinction, with cash prizes of up to $10,000.

Since 2011, the LifeChanger of the Year program has awarded over $8,500,000 to K-12 teachers, administrators, and school employees across more than 2,300 school districts. This award highlights educators who go above and beyond to positively impact their students and communities.

𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗔𝗿𝘁

For Stinson, the nomination is a reflection of her dedication to both teaching and inspiring students. “I am deeply honored to be considered for this award. It gives me great pride knowing that I have helped and improved my students’ development,” Stinson said.

Her love for art and education has shaped her journey. With a BFA in drawing and painting, she pursued teaching to merge her passion for art with the opportunity to motivate and guide students. “I wanted to be both a working artist and a teacher who inspires students to enjoy what they create, whether they pursue an art career or not,” she explained.

𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵

As an educator, Stinson emphasizes the importance of adaptability, especially in art, where students are at various stages of development.

“I have students who struggle to draw a straight line and others preparing for AP Art. My goal is to meet them where they are, adjust projects to fit their needs, and help each student show growth,” she said.

Beyond technical skills, she hopes to leave a lasting impact on students—helping them find joy, motivation, and confidence through creativity, regardless of their career paths. A Life Lesson Beyond Art

For Stinson, the most valuable lesson she can teach is the ability to learn from mistakes and grow. “Mistakes happen, but they can always be fixed. That applies not just to art, but to life. It’s how we handle our mistakes that defines us,” she said.

The Woodlands, Texas – January 11, 2025 – College Park High School head basketball coach Clifton McNeely was celebrated for reaching a remarkable milestone of 700 career wins before leading his team to a commanding 99-33 victory over New Caney. The pregame ceremony was attended by current players, family, friends, and staff, who gathered to honor McNeely’s 30 years of coaching excellence.

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
McNeely’s milestone was achieved on January 4, 2025, after a dominant 80-31 win over Cleveland High School.
The pregame ceremony featured the presentation of a commemorative game ball.
The Cavaliers had a strong performance, building a 47-25 halftime lead and limiting New Caney to just 8 total points in the second half.
Senior Ian Inman led all scorers with 25 points, followed by Aiden Buckman with 18 points and 11 assists. Jacob Oman contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Underclassmen Robert Matthews and freshman Quentin Buckmon scored 10 and 8 points, respectively.
The Cavaliers will face Conroe in a pivotal district game on January 15, 2025, with both teams tied at 6-2 in district play.

Coach McNeely, reflecting on his career after the win, thanked his family for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

The Grand Oaks Grizzlies kept their undefeated streak intact with a 60-51 win over the visiting Willis Wildkats on Wednesday night. The victory, driven by key adjustments at halftime, marked their seventh consecutive district win and solidified their top position in 13-6A play.

Head coach Anthony Stephens has earned a reputation for his effective halftime strategies, which have been vital to the Grizzlies' success. His ability to adapt and respond to challenges has been crucial in their continued dominance.

Willis came out strong in the first half, playing aggressive defense and executing a sharp offense that helped them take a 26-23 lead into halftime. The Wildkats’ energy kept the Grizzlies on their toes, making it clear that this would be a hard-fought game.

But after the break, Stephens’ halftime adjustments kicked in. The Grizzlies focused on quicker ball movement and finding openings in Willis' defense. Although a few turnovers occurred, the changes created scoring opportunities, leading to several lead changes in the third quarter. A buzzer-beating three-pointer capped a 4-0 run for the Grizzlies, energizing the crowd and setting the stage for a strong second half.

In the fourth quarter, Grand Oaks guard Trae Lewis took control, scoring 15 points and helping to stretch the lead to double digits. A highlight moment came when he converted an and-one layup, putting the game out of reach. Despite a late push from Willis, the Grizzlies held firm, running out the clock for a 60-51 win.

This victory once again highlighted the Grizzlies’ ability to adjust and perform under pressure, qualities that continue to define their success in district play. Grand Oaks will next face Caney Creek on Saturday, while Willis will regroup during their break ahead of their next game on January 14.
